Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Be sure to stay alert to your surroundings anytime you are leaving a credit union, bank or use an ATM machine. Following the tips below can help keep you safe.

• Make sure any cash you may have withdrawn is not visible as you walk to your car. Criminals may be watching and target those whom they see are carrying cash.
• Don’t be distracted. Avoid being on your phone or wearing earbuds.
• Before leaving, conceal your cash in a different bag like a briefcase or purse, instead of a small zipper cash bag or cash envelope.
• If you’re withdrawing a lot of cash, bring someone along with you.
• Immediately lock your car doors when you get into your vehicle.
• Notice if any vehicles follow you out of the parking lot.
