Flex Savings

Ready. Set. Goal.

Get ahead of the game with a Flex Savings Account. Designed for teens ages 13-17 who want to save a little (or a lot) and watch it grow.

Flex Savings 101

Whether you’re tucking away your holiday cash, helping around the house to earn more allowance, or working your way toward college tuition, a Flex Savings account will keep your goal-money secure and earn you dividends (aka interest, aka free money). All you need is $5 and a guardian’s signature, then you’re free to save away.

By choosing to save with us, you’ll become a member of our credit union and part of a community with bigger goals at heart. We’re a not-for-profit organization, so your membership helps support people in our local community and helps us do more good in the world.

And speaking of good things, once you’re in the habit of saving, responsible spending is another healthy routine to practice. With your Flex Savings account up and running, you’ll qualify to open a Flex Checking account too. Keep your spending cash separate from your savings, and always keep it in your pocket for whatever, whenever — in the form of a colorful debit card design chosen by you.

Who is eligible to open a Flex Savings Account?

The Flex Savings Account is designed for teens ages 13 - 17. This is a great transition account designed to help young adults focus on reaching their financial goals while still helping them manage their money well, even when they make mistakes (like overdrafts.)

Does the Flex Savings Account have any fees?

A $5 deposit is required to open a Flex Savings Account. We do not charge a membership fee for our youngest members. To learn more about all of our accouts and any fees, please see our Rate and Fee Disclosure.

What are dividends and how do they work for the Flex Savings Account?

Dividends are extra money that your account earns just by being open and meeting our minimum account dividend earning value. The Flex Savings Account earns dividends quarterly as long as your account has at least $25 deposited in it. It is just another way we like to say thank you to our members for trusting us with your hard-earned "dough". To learn more about what the current dividend rate is and our other savings accounts that earn dividends, please see our Rate and Fee Disclosure.

Do teens opening a Flex Savings Account need a legal guardian to open the account?

Yes, teens opening a Flex Savings Account will have to select a legal guardian to be a joint member of their account.

What happens to my Flex Savings Account when I turn 18?

When you turn 18, your Flex Savings Account automatically becomes a Share Saving Account. This is our standard adult savings account that establishes you as a member of Fortera Credit Union. To learn more about this account, visit our Share Savings Account product page.

Can I set up automatic transfers to a Flex Savings account?

What documents do I need to open a Flex Savings account?

To verify your identity, we always ask that you come prepared with a government issued ID. It is important that it is not expired. Examples of acceptable IDs include a State Driver's License or a U.S or Foreign Passport. If we have trouble validating your ID, we may ask for a secondary ID. For children, we have a variety of other documents we can use to verify identities. These include social security cards, birth certificates, medicaid cards, and insurance cards. If you have a question about whether or not an ID can be used, just text us at 931.431.6800.
