Spotting imposter websites.

Always double-check the URL you type in when visiting our website. Our website and Online Banking can be found at forteracu.com. Frequently, cybercriminals will make fake websites in an attempt to steal your login and password information. If you ever notice the website looks different than you expected or that the URL has changed slightly, those are potential red flags signaling that you may be on a fake website.

See here an example of someone pretending to be Fortera Credit Union. This is an example we found while performing routine security checks.

Always be on the lookout for unexpected changes, and trust your instincts when something doesn't feel right. Exit unfamiliar websites, and be sure not to click on any links or buttons.

Red flags to look out for.

As a reminder, never give your online or mobile banking user ID and password combo, full account or card number, PIN number, 3 digit CVV Security Code, or full Social Security Number unless you called us directly at 931-431-6800. If you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of a communication you receive, please call or text us at 931.431.6800, reach out to us via web or video chat or come see us in-person at one of our branches. We will be happy to help confirm if the communication is legitimate or not. Other tips include:

Remotely Controlling Your Device

+

Don’t give someone permission to remotely view or take over your device unless you initiate contact directly by calling 931.431.6800 or by starting a web or video chat through our website.

Never click on links sent to you in an email or text that you weren’t expecting without verifying with us that the message is legitimate first.

Urgent or Threatening Emails

+

Be wary of emails conveying a sense of urgency or using threatening language. Be especially mindful of emails with attachments.

Poor Grammar

+

Many fake texts and emails have poor grammar or misspelled words. That is a red flag if you see it.

Sending Money to People You Don't Know

+

Never send money to people you don’t know, especially through insecure channels.

Unusual Looking Email Addresses

+

Double-check any email addresses to make sure they originated from forteracu.com. Fraudsters often use numbers disguised as letters to trick members into thinking they are legitimate email addresses. Example: f0rteracu.com (can you see how it would be easy to mistake the number zero for the letter O?

Don't reply back to suspicious messages.

+

Don’t reply back to suspicious texts or emails. Instead, call or text us at 931.431.6800, reach out to us via web or video chat or come see us in-person at one of our branches. We will be happy to help confirm if the communication is legitimate or not.
