A common scam consumers face is receiving emails or text messages from a fraudster impersonating their financial institution. The messages will often warn of attempted transactions or some type of fraud on your account. Many times, they will include a link to verify the transaction or lock down your account. Once you click the link, you’ll be asked to enter personal information, such as your account number or online banking username and password. The link may even lead to a fake site that appears as if you are logging in to online banking with your financial institution or it may download harmful software on your device!
Scammers want to scare you into quickly clicking on the link to steal your information. Always pause before clicking on links or responding directly to unexpected communications. If you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of a communication you receive, don’t reply to the suspicious messages. Instead, call or text us at 931.431.6800, reach out to us via web chat or come see us in-person at one of our branches. We will be happy to help confirm if the communication is legitimate or not.
